Everywhere's Non-Player Characters

Shopkeeps, Quest-givers, Trainers, and all sorts of company can be found around Everywhere! This article catalogues only stable and complexNPCs, meaning they need to have one page that they consistently appear on with more than one line of dialogue or purpose. Super is the exception because she's got one stable page, at the library, she just chooses to go exploring sometime. Most NPCs have their own schedules and preferences, which we've tried to catalogue here, but they can be surprisingly tricky folks to track! If there's an NPC you think should be added to this page, reach out!

NPC Marketplace

Ado will generally be the first friendly face players meet at the Marketplace, as she's part of the introductory questline new accounts are automatically put on. She's also the signpost NPC for the Cooking crafting task, so she tutorializes the task for new players and provides tips & tricks! This matronly Ocean Eegee carries a rotating stock filled with food-based items including certain recipes, some seasonings, basic ingredients, and even some simple boosters for Hunting, Fishing, and Farming Tasks in the form of Lures, Bait, and Fertilizer. Her stock rotates daily so it's always a good idea to stop by and see what Ado's asking for her wares; she's a simple lady and will usually be satisfied with most any item from Wandering, or at least a byproduct of them like a spool of spiderweb thread. Ado is at the Marketplace all day, every day, and closes her stall at night. The exception is during Celebrations, when she'll stay open late selling seasonal specialties.

Jack is a Forest Vher and signpost NPC for Blacksmithing, Woodworking, and Textile Crafting. This gentle giant also helps players out with Husbandry upgrades, as if he wasn't busy enough! His stall in the Marketplace buys or sells simple items that can be made in his associated Crafting Tasks, providing a general rate of exchange for many basic goods. These rates of exchange aren't as simple as a price in coins, of course, as Chimeric has no central currency, but there's a million spreadsheets on the Forums that people use to loosely track rates of conversion between different items using stable constants like Jack's stock. Jack's available all day and sleeps all night, a basic but reliable schedule, and at certain milestones of Husbandry upgrades he'll send you on a Quest to defeat some specific enemies in combat. Rewards include recipes for his apron, hairband, and bangles.

The Orphist is a hulking Shadow Vher who sells pigments, paints, and dyes, generally only asking for fresh fruits or vegetables as the price. She asks for a lot of fruits and veggies, though; she's got a Vhers' appetite, after all! Every once in a while she'll give out a quest to beat her high score in Banquet within the day, which is a major challenge given her skills but gives the pattern for her smock, scarf, or sandals. The Orphist is at the NPC Marketplace all day but takes a long lunch, tea, and nap from 11am to 4pm, meaning functionally she's only available in mornings and evenings.

Exentrix is a goggles-wearing Sun Wuzzle with a strange habit of talking in circles. Xe sells potions with random known effects, which are more likely than usual to trigger various unknown secondary effects. Xir goggles, labcoat, gloves, and backpack are all available as patterns for completing xir Quest, which can randomly proc when a player purchases a potion (it seems to take a few dozen purchases to reliably get it, though people have gotten it in as few as five!) and requires you to bring xem several magic items to make a "very, very, very special potion very". The easiest way to do this is with Retry Tokens, of course, but if you give only Retry Tokens then Exentrix will give you a pattern for a very plain, un-dyeable wooden lanyard with "honorary research assistant" on it instead of one of xir clothing pieces. For best results, toss in one Ritual Note in addition to your usual Retry Tokens! Exentrix will ask for a variety of items as payment for xir regular potions, ranging from candies to bugs to gemstones. It's unclear whether these are for the wuzzle's potions or for personal use. Exentrix is primarily nocturnal, but will appear in the main Marketplace for a random 10 minutes every hour during the day.

Library

Supernumerinfintolia ("Super" for short, on the forums) is a Legend, so most of her info is on that page. For the purposes of general NPC info, she can usually be found at the entrance to the Library and doesn't sleep. She'll occasionally offer Plumagycks, Paperscraps, Ritual Notes, or the Catkin Blossom Book if you can answer a piece of site trivia for her. If you complete an introductory quest to collect a series of matching Paperscraps for her she'll offer a pattern to craft her bracers, ribbons, or glasses, all of which come in beige but can be dyed any color. She's also the NPC with possibly the most lore information, connected to her role as a Legend and tutorial figure simultaneously.

Archive Keeper Mouse is not, as their name would suggest, a mouse. They're a passionate young Garden Wuzzle that takes care of the library, but they are particularly dedicated to the paperscrap archives. Mouse allows you to view whichever paperscraps you've collected so far, gives feedback on their interpretation of scraps if they're presented alone or in combination, and can even give cryptic hints about where you might be able to find missing scraps in a series. This last trait makes them an invaluable resource, given how paperscraps are almost never mentioned in Chimeric's update logs whenever new ones are added! Mouse is also the signpost NPC for the Scribing crafting task, though Supernumerinfintolia (who Mouste generally only calls their "favorite patron") often shows up to keep them company.

Battleground

The Spectre is a cloaked figure that acts as the Signpost NPC for Combat, and greets you when you first enter the Battleground. It's unclear exactly what species he is, but he's certainly Reanimated. Players initially thought he was a strange Shadow version of an unknown species, until the color's reveal first Spirit's Rest introduced the color officially. Spectre sells Retry Tokens and some simple weapons, a few of which actually can't be crafted any other ways: the Black Knife, Obsidian Staff, Fractured Bow, and Bone Whistle don't have recipes, unlike most of Spectre's shop. Unlike most shopkeeps who ask for some particular kind of item, Spectre asks for you to defeat a certain amount of enemies for each item, with more powerful items requiring more challenging enemies. Unlike other shops he also has a cooldown between purchases, requiring at least 12 hours between purchases. Outside of his initial appearance and tutorializing / providing tims for Combat, Spectre only appears at the Battleground during nighttime. Unlike other night-exclusive NPCs, he'll still appear while a Radiant Candle is active, though his sprite's a bit grumpier-looking, he makes a comment abount uncomfortable brightness, and all of his items are 20% more expemnsive!

Polymorphia is a Sun Naea that hangs around just outside the Battleground and sells regular potions, heals pets, and helps with changing items between versions. This doesn't change colors, like The Orphist's dyes do, but rather trades certain common items at a 1:2 rate—much like Jack's stock, this serves as a stable bound on the "price" or value of certain items. Most meats and vegetables can morph back and forth with eachother, as can many fish to some insects. Milk and eggs polymorph into eachother, somehow, as do coal and wood. It's virtually never worthwhile to trade with Polymorphia instead of seeking another player to trade with, unless you're working on Polymorphia's quest which requires you to trade a thousand items in total. This means basically tossing 500 items into the void, but you do get a pattern for Polymorphia's shawl, belt, tie, or headscarf for completing the task! And the Naea really appreciates the chance to change things up, apparently, and just chitchatting around trades. Polymorphia keeps a fairly normal diurnal schedule, and is the signpost NPC for the Alchemy crafting task; it'd probably be Exentrix if the odd Wuzzle could stay in one place long enough to supervise players!
