Crafting Tasks

Crafting lets your pet turn basic ingredients into crafted goods, and crafted goods into even more powerful items!

Cooking is the Task that make sure your pet gets fed something more than raw meat and veggies! Most ingredients can be prepared and/or combined in dozens of ways, as Chimeric features some truly inspired recipes like "Macaroni and Grilled Cheese Pizza" and "The PB&P&H&C&B&C&J" (aka the Peanut Butter & Pickles & Honey & Chocolate & Bacon & Chips & Jelly sandwich) which are incredibly time-consuming to make but also reward your pet with major boosts to Mood and Characteristics temporarily. Most recipes have a simple minigame associated with them, timing the heating appropriately, chopping things evenly, or mixing ingredients smoothly, with high performance on the minigame giving extra bonuses to the dish while failing can destroy ingredients. There are fermentation-based recipes like pickles which take more than one shift to complete, and these recipes generally have no minigames associated with them but gain further bonuses based on timing the fermentation appropriately; if you forget to take care of an active ferment, the ingredients will degrade and eventually be destroyed.

Alchemy can be thought of as "cooking but with magic" since it uses the same minigames with re-done visuals to fit your alchemical reagents. Instead of food items, though, this Task creates Potions, as well as pigments, dyes, and refined ink. Most Potions you can craft provide bonuses to your pet's Characteristics or help them in Combat, with the caveat that your pet can only be under the effects of one Potion at a time. You can mix multiple Potions together to combine their effects and functionally "cheat" this restriction, but every time you combine Potions you increase the chances of random secondary effects being added. Since some of these secondary effects can change your pet's appearance or make them unable to consume potions for a full week, you want to make sure not to combine too many potions.

Scribing is a Task primarily associated with creating Ritual Notes to improve your pet's spellcasting, but it can also be used to make books, banners, and other written goods. Because there are so few uses for Scribing, most users don't have a pet that's highly trained in it, and instead trade for Ritual Notes from users who have dedicated the time to train up a pet's Scribing skill to the appropriate level. The Scribing Task also happens to be unpopular because the associated minigame, a typing game which gets faster for higher-level recipes, is virtually unplayable on mobile devices and older computers.

Blacksmithing lets your pet make weapons, armors, and various metal goods used all over the site. It's also necessary to turn raw ores from Mining into metal bars for crafting or trading, and to improve or upkeep existing pieces. The Blacksmithing minigame involves timing your pet's swinging of a hammer on hot metal, and if you get perfect scores throughout you can recoup a good deal of raw material from your crafting in the form of "scrap metal."

Woodworking is how you get just about every piece of furniture in the game, as well as make any changes to your home. It's a somewhat niche Task that highly enfranchised players take very seriously, especially those who need to craft the required barns, coops, and fences for pastures to keep a sizeable Husbandry setup. There's no minigame required for home improvements, they simply occur as long as you own a pet with high enough woodworking taskrank and use the required resources, but furniture crafting does have a simple saw-aligning puzzle (which plays like Guitar Hero with less colors!) and if you miss enough cuts you need to retry the craft again later and lose the wood.

Textile Crafting includes everything from tanning hides & spinning threads all the way to customizing garments and creating unique tapestries. It's the most popular Crafting task other than Cooking, and necessary for engaging with customization. Alongside Cooking and Alchemy, Textile Crafting has multiple minigames; there's a sewing minigame where you need to follow a particular path closely with a needle, a pattern-tracing task where you need to reproduce a drawing of an item, and the quilting / tapestry minigame which is a whole beast unto itself!
